	The Vha Venda people of Limpopo province in south africa have tradition of building with stone which has been passed down from generation to generation. They construct stone walls around their houses for example, taking a pride in the appearance of their homesteads. There is a historical monument nearby, the stone-built Kraal at Dzata, the ruins of which are situated within few kilometers of the study location. There are even be some evidence that the Vha Venda came originally from the area of Great Zimbabwe(The famous stone-built fortress in Zimbabwe). It is not surprising therefore that the Vha Venda have used their masonary skills to build terraces in fields to counter erosion and simultaneously to make cultivation along the contour by oxen.<br/><br/>For details look at page 265 of referral link.
