[edit] Definition
Adaptive capacity is the ability of a system to adjust to climate change effects to moderate potential damages, to take advantages of opportunities or to cope with the consequences.[1] Scientific information alone is an insufficient basis for the adaptation process. People’s experiences and local knowledge often influence the adaptive capacity. The efficient use of existing and newly collected knowledge in decision processes is of high importance in adaptation processes (see also framework planning and coordination).
