Abstract
|
The opportunities for integrated control, utilization and economic development greatly
increased with the arrival and utilization of the wood chippers to convert small spiny
branches into easy-to-handle wood chips and the hammermills that have been used to
grind pods for livestock use. This latter process accomplishes 2 objectives, (1) it makes
the protein in hard seeds available in the digestion process and (2) it destroys the seeds
so unlike ingestion of unground pods which results in large quantities of germinating
seeds in the livestock feces, no seedlings emerge from the feces of animals that have
eaten ground pods.
